We are catching up on the news that Marquee Brands, the licensing company that owns Dakine, Body Glove and a host of other brands, has acquired the DTC streetwear brand Anti Social Social Club.
The news was first reported by The Business of Fashion. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
A familiar face in our industry is leading Marquee – Neil Fiske, the former CEO of Billabong before it was acquired by Boardriders. Neil went on to work at Gap before joining Marquee Brands.
We reached out to Neil about this recent acquisition, and he said the company is not doing a lot of press on the move. He did give a statement to Business of Fashion, who was the first to report the sale and reached out to the company.
Neil essentially told The Business of Fashion that Marquee has no intention of changing the brand’s DNA and culture, but that Marquee can help them grow by investing capital and offering operating platforms.
According to several publications, Anti Social Social Club has had pretty big shipping problems in the past.
The brand was founded by Andrew Buenaflor, a former social media manager for Stussy.
Marquee is sponsored by private equity firm Neuberger Berman. Marquee’s other brands include Martha Stewart, Sur La Table, Ben Sherman, Bruno Magli, Motherhood Maternity and more.
