We spent most of the day Friday on Main Street in Huntington Beach and at the Vans US Open of Surfing.

Compared to years past, Main Street seemed much quieter, with fewer overall people and much less marketing activation from industry brands.

We saw more families on the beach and less of the out-of-control, scantily-clad, sketchy crowd that frequented the event in years past.

While the riffraff element seemed to be less, there were still plenty of people on the beach, and the Vans store on the sand was packed.

Vans created areas for teens to hang out and play ping pong, make art, and eat free hot dogs cooked by Steve Van Doren.

We have photos in our slide show of who and what we saw during the day.
