Last winter, Rome announced % For Snowboarding to retailers in North America, and with the recent launch of their website, the novel online-selling program has gone live. Built on the understanding that local shops who actively stoke and promote snowboarding are absolutely key to the overall health of snowboarding, % For Snowboarding is changing the way snowboarders buy product directly from brands.
It’s pretty simple: when a rider buys product from the Rome website, they select a local snowboard store to receive a portion of the sale. The more the shop supports snowboarding, the more they receive from the purchase.
A couple weeks in, riders are picking up gear from the Rome site and shops are getting selected to benefit from their purchases. In the early phases of the program’s launch, Rome is excited about the initial results for its partner stores. Shops have been selected in 14 states and provinces from the US and Canada, and several shops have been selected more than once.
The snowboarders picking up the new gear are stoked as well. “Rock On!!!!!,” commented Luke Gaddy after he selected Edge Sports in Rapid City, SD to receive their percentage of his purchase. “I try to support local whenever possible, so it’s awesome to know I can still do that by ordering through the Rome site. Edge Sports in Rapid City, SD is where I bought my Agent Rocker Addictive and is run by guys that really support the shred,” he added.
It might be a simple idea, but it is one that is unique to Rome. As the season ramps up, only riders who shop from the Rome site will simultaneously support snowboard shops every time they click “Buy Now”. Whether it’s a t-shirt or a new Mod Rocker, every time they purchase they’ll be shopping globally and spending locally at the same time.
