Costa Mesa, CA, June 7, 2010- The Slam is a sustainably run skateboarding festival to be held on June 27, 2010 at Volcom Skate Park Costa Mesa, under the fiscal sponsorship of the Volunteer Center of Orange County.
The festival is being sponsored by local businesses and organizations, with net event proceeds benefiting battered women and their children in their quest to achieve personal freedom, physical safety, and economic independence.
The Slam will also give back to the community in another way by providing a free day of entertainment for families in Orange County and the local surrounding areas. The festival will include a skateboarding competition, live music from local bands, indoor and outdoor exhibits with animals, a “Kid Zone”, interactive exhibits by local artists, along with a wide selection of food from local restaurants.
Pro riders from Spun and Scum Skateboards, as well as many well known skateboarding legends will be in attendance to help promote the sport and to show their talents in the bowl and street courses.
The festival’s eco-conscious elements will include a solar powered music stage, bio-diesel generators providing power to vendors and the kid zone, all food service items will be compostable and all waste will be recycled or composted. To ensure that green elements are implemented throughout the event, the non-profit organization, Ecofficiency.org, will be involved throughout the development of the event.
For local companies wanting to be a part of the festival, The Slam is offering vendor booth space and sponsorship opportunities at four different levels. Each sponsorship offers ongoing visibility within the community.
