Billabong was one of 10 companies recognized by the United Nations and the Foundation for Social Change at the Global Conference for Social Change last week in New York.
Â
Companies and organizations that received the Leaders of Change award demonstrated an exemplary commitment to the pursuit of sustainability by embedding environmental and social performance in the competitive strategy of the firm or organization, according to the conference website.
Â
The Foundation for Social Change brings together the private sector, non-profits and government groups to focus their efforts on solving social problems through partnership engagements.
Â
Billabong’s humanitarian and environmental efforts include an ongoing commitment to the SurfAid International Schools Program, the ongoing application of Social Accountability International’s SA8000 workplace rights program, Billabong’s annual Design For Humanity event, the expansion of the recycled plastic bottle boardshort program, the ongoing measurement and reporting of the Group’s global carbon footprint, and the support of Dave Rastovich and his TransparentSea crew, who are currently sailing down the West Coast to raise awareness of ocean issues and the need to protect the marine environment.
