Vans Reduces Environmental Impact With The New Circle Vee

New silhouette spotlights Vans’ sustainability goals by utilizing renewable, responsibly sourced materials, and a reduced-waste approach.
Published: February 16, 2022 Press Release

As a brand rooted in youth culture, Vans is proud to introduce the Circle Vee™, an all-new silhouette that reinforces Vans’ commitment to reducing our impact on the planet for future generations. The Circle Vee taps into renewable materials and a reduced-waste approach — because every little bit helps add up to positive change.

To decrease our overall environmental footprint, Vans is committed to reducing greenhouse emissions, eliminating single-use plastics from packaging, and reimagining the lifecycle of our products by 2030. Vans recently outlined these ambitious goals and the steps the brand is taking to get there at Vans.com/Sustainability.

At the center of that mindful approach, the Circle Vee taps into a one-piece knitted natural upper that was designed to reduce waste in production compared to Vans’ traditional cut and sew uppers. The upper is stitched directly onto the outsole and is made of 48% organic cotton, 47% hemp, and 5% nylon, while the laces are made from 100% jute fibers.

The Circle Vee boasts a brand new EcoCush™ drop in footbed and provides all-day comfort and support with a molded heel cup and arch shape. The silhouette also ushers in Vans’ EcoWaffle™ outsole made from an all-new rubber compound that utilizes natural rubber instead of petroleum-derived synthetic rubber and is obtained from sources that follow proven sustainable practices with the intention of minimizing harm and having positive benefits within natural ecosystems. This new rubber compound was developed and engineered to maintain the grip and durability for which Vans is known.

Vans recognizes the importance of protecting our environment for the next generation, and our responsibility to take action to drive positive change for the planet. All the small, thoughtful choices made daily—like carrying a reusable water bottle, riding a bike, making coffee at home, picking up trash, refurbishing old boards, repairing worn items, or hang drying clothes—add up to a big move in the right direction for the ocean and surfers everywhere. With the Circle Vee, Vans is proud to be doing our part.

To support and protect the world’s oceans, Vans will be donating $1 for every Circle Vee product sold—with a minimum of $25,000 donated—to the Tides Foundation to support Ocean Conservancy.

The Vans Circle Vee is available now in natural/gum and dawn blue/gum colorways at Vans retailers and at Vans.com/Surf. For more information about Vans’ sustainability commitments, visit Vans.com/Sustainability.
