April 25, 2022 – Encinitas, CA – Twice a year the California Gold Surf Auction presents a marketplace with curated selections of culturally significant surfboards and memorabilia. One lot in the current auction is already at an historic high: $22K — just one of the 63 historically, culturally significant lots on offer at the California Gold Surf Auction.
“We’ve never seen bids this high this early in the bidding process,” explained California Gold Surf Auction Executive Director Scott Bass. “It’s very exciting and cements the marketplace as a safe harbor for asset distribution. In addition, it solidifies our auction as the gold standard—an invaluable market indicator.”
The auction excitement culminates Friday, April 29 at 5PM PST when the 63 auction lots begin closing consecutively every two minutes.
“The auction procurement committee prides itself on offering a little bit of everything, widening the appeal of the marketplace to include a broad range of buyers,” explained Bass. “Many of the lots are offered at No Reserve with low starting bids, meaning no matter what, the auction house will sell these boards. Everyone can get in on the action.”
The California Gold Surf Auction features a variety of lots. Vintage surfboards on offer by Greg Noll, Mike Diffenderfer, Gerry Lopez, Renny Yater, Phil Edwards, Mike Hynson, Barry Kanaiaupuni and classic surf labels such as Inter-island, Lightning Bolt, Zephyr, and Town & Country Surf Designs (just to name a few) are included. Also offered: personal surfboards of Kelly Slater, Tom Curren, Ben Aipa and Hollywood director John Milius; ephemera from the Outrigger Canoe Club, a George Greenough shadow box template, magazines and vintage photographs and etchings.
