More screenings will be taking place over the next few months across more than 50 theaters in the U.S. and Canada.
Published: August 12, 2022 Press Release

The first 50th anniversary release screening of the iconic surf film Five Summer Stories took place in Corona Del Mar, Calif. on Aug. 10. Digitally remastered and with a total of 10 stories or vignettes instead of the original five, the film was screened for the first time to a private audience at the New Port Theater.

Fifty years later, the classic surf film continues to communicate the fundamental narrative that the pure, innocent joy of surfing is symbolic of humankind’s best possibilities without war, politics, or environmental destruction. The evening featured a Q&A hosted by Sam George prior to the film, where guests heard from special guests Bob McKnight, founder of Quiksilver, and film director Greg MacGillivray. Following the film, guests were invited to purchase a signed copy of Greg MacGillivray’s newly released book, Five Hundred Summer Stories, with all proceeds going towards the Surfrider Foundation. This event was the first of over several screenings taking place over the next few months across more than 50 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. The full screening schedule is available HERE.
