Men’s casual brand Chubbies is aiming for another knock-out collaboration with San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle’s wrestling-inspired collection.
Wednesday’s release of the Lucha Libre-themed capsule totals nine SKUs, including joggers, shorts, T-shirts, swim trunks, a hat, and a polo. It retails from $29.50 to $79.50.
“After the overwhelming response we received from the first launch, we were so excited to get to work again and show off a different side of George,” said Chubbies President and co-founder Rainer Castillo in a statement on the collection.
Kittle, a collector of Luchador masks, saw his first release with Chubbies in June. The initial drop included a gym short, T-shirt, polo, and swim trunks. It was an important collab with the football player given Kittle’s been wearing the brand since he was in high school.
The company’s deal with Kittle is expected to yield additional collaborations that will be released into the market over the next two years.
The first drop nearly sold out within the first 24 hours of its launch, according to Chubbies.
The company, started in 2011, made a splash with its flashy prints, vibrant colors, and its halo 5.5-inch inseam short.
The assortment has continued to grow well beyond shorts with pants launched last year and a recent test in the youth market.
The brand is sold in specialty surf shops, in addition to a growing roster of chain retailers including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Scheels, and Kohl’s.
“Continuing to evolve what is the latest, greatest, and best in our core categories is really going to be the focus for us,” Castillo told SES earlier this year of the business’ continued strategy.
Chubbies is owned by Solo Stove, which bought the business in 2021 as part of a trio of purchases that also included Oru Kayak and Isle.
Chubbies ended 2022 with net sales of $89.3 million and net income of $100,000.
