The ocean calls to those who seek—every wave, every current, every hidden reef holds a story waiting to be discovered. We dive in, chase the horizon, and explore the unknown—not just to See What’s Out There, but to understand it and protect it. As the global eyewear partner of World Ocean Day, Costa Sunglasses is doubling down on its commitment to honor our blue world and the people who have long been its stewards with a powerful declaration:
For over forty years, Costa has been rooted in one simple purpose: to create the best sunglasses for the water and protect the watery world that we call home. Our mission has always been to protect this shared world–supporting those who rely on it, explore it, and work to preserve it for future generations.
The ocean is calling, so today and going forward, Costa pledges to foster a more inclusive, responsible, and compassionate outdoor culture, because protecting the waters we love also means protecting the people who love them. From coast to coast, we are Bound by Blue.
“The ocean covers approximately 70% of Earth’s surface and it’s time we acknowledge that there’s so much more we can do to protect it,” said Robbie LaBelle, Global Vice President of Marketing at Costa. “We’re proud to be Bound by Blue and our intent is simple: take care of the ocean that takes care of us.”
To put this mission into action and with sights set on a cleaner ocean, Costa has partnered with Bureo®, makers of NetPlus®, to evolve the Pargo, Santiago, Antille and Caleta frames in the Untangled™ Collection. Since 2018, through Costa’s partnership with Bureo, more than 3.6 metric tons of discarded fishing nets have been repurposed for Costa’s Untangled™ Collection of eyewear. The new frames, born from old nets, feature NetPlus® material crafted with a new technique that delivers a smooth matte finish. Each is made of 97% recycled fishing nets, giving new life to one of the most harmful forms of ocean plastic pollution. Designed with both style and performance in mind, the evolved Untangled Collection is available in Costa’s latest 580G Gold Mirror Lens and are featured on Costa Ambassadors who represent a collection of visionaries, creators and adventurers from across the planet championing ocean awareness in impactful ways, including Rachel Moore, Perrin James, Andy Mann and more.
“Discarded fishing nets lost at sea pose a serious threat to marine life and underwater ecosystems,” notes David Stover, co-founder and CEO of Bureo. “By partnering with local fishing communities, we are able to prevent a problem before it starts, and give these materials a next life as the Untangled Collection. It’s ultimately a testament to what can be accomplished when like-minded teams work together towards a common goal – protecting our ocean.”
Devoted to protecting the blue world we call home, sustainability and conservation is woven into Costa’s DNA.
