Outdoor Research, the Seattle-based outdoor brand known for its innovative, field-tested gear and apparel, proudly announces the grand opening of its new Bellingham retail store. Located at 1501 12th St., in the historic Fairhaven neighborhood, the 2,736 square-foot space features a curated selection of Outdoor Research’s award-winning technical gear including mountain bike apparel, outerwear, and sportswear, alongside heritage gloves, gaiters, and headwear. The modern, updated store also builds on the brand’s mission to help solve adventurers’ problems by offering the active Bellingham community a new space to find reliable, high-performance gear, while serving as a hub for the local outdoor community.

“Bellingham is a launch pad for so many outdoor adventures—whether you’re riding Galbraith, skiing Baker, or exploring the North Cascades,” said Bellingham Store Manager Ben Harvey.  “We’re beyond excited to open our doors in a community that lives and breathes the outdoors, and we can’t wait to welcome both locals and visitors into our space.”

Founded in 1981 in Seattle, WA by nuclear physicist Ron Gregg, Outdoor Research designs technical outdoor gear and apparel for people who love to be outdoors. Inspired by the mountains and seas of the Pacific Northwest, Outdoor Research’s unique research-led approach to product development and their commitment to innovation, collaboration and community, has built them a reputation as one of the most trusted brands in the outdoor industry.

Outdoor Research will celebrate the opening of its new Bellingham store on Thursday, July 10 leading up to the popular Northwest Tune-up mountain bike festival, with a special event from 4pm – 8pm that includes a free food truck and drinks, DJ, raffle, storewide discounts, and more. Athletes from Outdoor Research’s growing team of ambassadors will also be at the event including professional mountain biker Bas van Steenbergen as well as pro freeskiers and ripping mountain bikers Mark Abma and Micah Evangelista. The celebration continues on Friday, July 11, with a group mountain bike ride with Bas, Mark, and Micah, open to all festival-goers and the public, departing at 10:00am from the main South Galbraith Mountain parking lot located just off Samish Way.

“We’re stoked to open just in time for Northwest Tune Up, a Bellingham tradition,” added Ben. “It’s the perfect way to kick things off—connecting with the mountain bike community, soaking up the festival energy, and showcasing pieces from our Freewheel MTB collection, built for high-output trail riding, technical terrain, and long, fun days in the saddle.”
