Outdoor Research has named Scott Kerslake acting president, effective May 11, 2026. The appointment follows the departure of Roger Barton, who left the Seattle-based company in April after eight years, including six as president.

Kerslake brings nearly three decades of experience in active and outdoor apparel to the role. He is best known as the founder of Athleta, which he built from inception into one of the leading brands in women’s active apparel. He later served as CEO of prAna, where he led the brand through a period of significant growth and established its category leadership in sustainability. He has also held leadership roles at Nixon and Mountain Hardwear.

Kerslake will lead the company while the board of directors conducts a search for a permanent president. During that period, he will work alongside the leadership team and board to advance brand and product strategies, strengthen organizational collaboration, and support execution of the brand’s long-term strategy.

Barton, who joined Outdoor Research in 2018 initially leading finance and operations before becoming president in 2020, said in a statement upon his departure that he was confident in the team’s ability to continue growing the brand.

Outdoor Research, founded in 1981 and based in Seattle, makes apparel, accessories, and equipment for outdoor and tactical users.
