As KEEN, Inc. (KEEN) continues to bring outdoor DNA to everyday life in the city, the original hybrid shoemaker is reimagining one of its iconic sneakers in a bold new way. Jasper, originally inspired by climbing shoes, brings crag culture and looks to daily wear—now in a more minimal aesthetic with KEEN’s newest Jasper style: the Jasper Merko barefoot-inspired sneaker.

“Our fans want less. Less impact on the planet. Less waste. And they want fewer shoes that can do more,” says Blaine Conrad, vice president of product at KEEN. “Jasper Merko is a distillation and evolution of Jasper’s heritage—combining tried-and-true shoemaking techniques with groundbreaking, sustainable solutions. Less has never been more wearable.”

The “Merko” part of Jasper Merko represents the unique, statement-making sole. The word Merko—a cross between the words merkel and flow—is a nod to the meandering, fingerprint-like pattern and sensory experience of the barefoot-inspired sole. Merkel cells are essential for detecting light touch and pressure, enabling us to feel fine details and textures.

That barefoot-inspired feeling is amplified by the stitch-and-turn construction that creates a seamless fit and a low-profile sole that’s KEEN.FUSION bonded to the upper without glue for enhanced durability and flexibility. It’s also one of the first KEEN styles to integrate EcoEnd in the midsole—which organically biodegrades the foam cushioning at end-of-life. Fans can wear them into the ground.

Key features of the Jasper Merko include:

Stitch-and-turn construction: Creates a seamless, flexible fit that feels like it was tailored for your feet.

Barefoot-inspired sole: Low-profile, ultra-flexible sole for natural movement and a more connected feeling.

KEEN.FUSION durability: Sole fused with heat and pressure, not toxic glue, for a longer-lasting bond that’s better for the planet.

Bio-enhanced midsole: EcoEnd organically biodegrades foam cushioning at end-of-life.

Responsibly sourced suede: Premium suede leather from tanneries certified for their environmental and social practices.

Comfort mesh lining: Breathable and soft inside, with or without socks.

Original fit: Generous space across the forefoot for natural toe splay.

Pesticide-free odor control: Eco Anti-Odor uses natural probiotics that are safe for people and the planet.

Jasper Merko ($135/USD) launched globally on September 3, 2026, in men’s and women’s sizing at www.keenfootwear.com and at select retailers.
