Visibility into future economic performance is a hot topic these days, so I spoke with two economists to get their take on how long consumer spending will be in the doldrums. I also examined a worldwide economic forecast to understand when other parts of the world may recover.

Nickelsburg believes once consumers become less fearful, they will begin spending again, though more moderately. Consumers have spent their way through every recession so he has a hard time believing they will stay on the sidelines for long.
