Consumer confidence up around the globe

Consumer confidence is on the rebound around the globe, the latest surveys show.

Every nation we checked shows a continued swing to positive consumer sentiment, though all remain at levels below their record optimism.

As we saw with U.S. retail sales in May, climbing optimism doesn't necessarily equate to immediate returns on the floor, and some data in the consumer surveys reveals why. Retailers and manufacturers seems more guarded than consumers, as reflected by the data on U.S. port volume.
