This year the tour has grown beyond its snowboard roots aided, in part, by Big Sky Partners, a venture capital firm founded by Michael Schwab. For the past few years, Schwab and his team have been investing in wave pool ventures and new surf resorts, among other projects. The Natural Selection partnership started in 2020 and since then, their horizons have expanded considerably: Along with the picture-perfect ski competition in Alaska, there was a tropical surf contest in Micronesia and a stomach-dropping mountain bike event in New Zealand.
