Orange County has a growing environmental movement, especially in the surf and action sports industries. Nearly every surf brand has an organic T-shirt or some sort of green initiative.
All those successful executives now have a cool new place to shop for eco-friendly yet tastefully modern furniture at South Coast Plaza.
Environment Furniture opened last week in a sweet space near Macy’s Home store. The 2,800-square-foot showroom has a solid wall of 100-year-old reclaimed Brazilian wood, flooring of soy-based concrete and burlap paneling made from coffee sacks.
I know, I know. That sounds awfully Berkeley for glitzy South Coast Plaza. Environment Furniture actually doesn’t look crunchy at all. It’s sleek and modern and reminiscent of an urban loft.
And the furniture is quite nice. Dining tables, coffee tables, platform beds, sofas, dressers – all made from sustainable materials, all with a rustic yet modern vibe. Most of the furniture combines reclaimed Brazilian Peroba wood with responsibly harvested mahogany.

For beds, prices range from $2,400 to $4,300 and dining tables $2,000 to $3,700.
The company is headquartered in Los Angeles and has a store there and in New York as well. South Coast Plaza is the company’s third retail location.
