October same-store sales are out. Here’s the report.
Pacific Sunwear
New focus on company-made, fashionable juniors merchandise continues to gain traction.
Company same-store sales: down 0.8 percent
PacSun stores: up 2.3 percent
Demo stores: down 22.8 percent
PacSun girls: up high teens led by Bullhead Denim, dresses, tops and shorts.
PacSun guys: up low single digit. Strong in tops offset by weakness in pants and fashion denim.
Accessories: down high teens. Girls down low teens, guys down mid-20s.
Footwear: down mid single digits. Guys down mid single digits, girls down high single digits.
Best regions: Texas, Midwest, New England, Northwest.
Weak regions: Desert Southwest, Southern California, Florida.
Guidance: Raised guidance for Q3 to 14-to-15 earnings per share from 10-to-13 per share (not including charges for closing One Thousand Steps and evaluation of Demo).
Zumiez
Same-store sales: up 5.1 percent
Strong category: skate hard goods
More details: lower inventory in snow products compared impacted results.
Guidance: Cut guidance for third quarter and the year. The company is taking a more conservative outlook due to its reliance on seasonal merchandise in the fourth quarter. For Q3, earnings per share will be 27-to-28 cents full year earnings per share will be 92-to-94 cents.
Macy’s
Same-store sales: down 1.5 percent
Nordstrom
Same-stores sales: down 2.4 percent
Strong categories: designer apparel and accessories
Strong regions: South, Midwest and Northwest
Weak regions: Southern California adversely effected by fires.
Hollister (owned by Abercrombie & Fitch)
Same-store sales: down 5 percent
Guys: up high single digits
Girls: down low double digits
The Buckle
Same-store sales: up 14.9 percent
Mens: up 24.5 percent
Strong categories, mens: denim, woven/knits, sweaters
Women’s: up 17 percent
Strong categories, women’s: denim, knits, outerwear
Accessories combined: up slightly
Footwear: down 8.5 percent
