Zumiez reported this afternoon that same-store sales for May declined 20.7 percent.
All departments comped down in May, including footwear, which has been a bright spot for the action sports chain.
Other retailers have said during recent conference calls that May was a tough month for them as well.
Zumiez May comps by week:
Week 1: down 20.4 percent
Week 2: down 23.6 percent
Week 3: down 19.8 percent
Week 4: down 19 percent
The average number of transactions per comp store was down, as was the average unit retail price to a lesser extent.
Stores in the Western half of the U.S. continue to perform the worst, with average same-stores sales down in the mid-20 percent range, the company said.
Year-to-date, same store sales are down 16.7 percent compared to 0.6 percent in the same period last year.
Zumiez operates a total of 363 stores.
