In his acceptance speech, Flea talked about how uplifting surfing is, and how it provides so much energy, and that it’s the right thing to do to use some of that energy to help others. He also said that whenever he goes out of his way to help someone else, he thinks, “It’s just what you’re supposed to do.”

Surfers Healing is particularly powerful, he said, and is a poetic, beautiful thing that helps autistic children not feel so alone.

Proceeds from the event benefited 12 surf-related humanitarian organizations.

Santiago Aguerre first came up with the idea for Liquid Nation, and joined with his brother, Fernando, to make the idea a reality.
