SLATER GOES BIG!

Monday night in L.A., the California Science Center Kelly Slater went big — and I mean big — as the premiere of “The Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D” happened in front of a packed, invitation-only house.

Kelly Slater interviewIt’s deserving of our nine-time ASP World Champion, the greatest surfer in history from whatever angle you want to look at it.

And I might be wrong but the only other IMAX film about an athlete has been about Michael Jordan, considered the greatest basketball player of all-time and that wasn’t even in 3D.

Speaking of 3D, wait until you sit in the theatre and have Slater carve a turn in your face at Teahupoo with your 3D glasses on, you’ll jump back in your seat like his spray hit you in the face.

And when he and co-star Tahitian Raimana Van Bastolaer sit there talking story you’ll feel like you’re right there in Tahiti with them. Teahupoo and the beauty of Tahiti are stars of this film, too.

The McKnightsThe Science Center was packed with luminaries including trustees of the various museums in the complex and the head honchos of Fuel TV, C.J. Olivares and right hand man Scott Paridon. Their whole crew was on-site conducting interviews with Fuel TV hosts Chris Cote and Jodie Nelson.

Others included the Quiksilver crew lead by the McKnight family and all the key executives and a bevy of surf stars from recent Quiksilver/Eddie winner Greg Long to big wave charger Pete Mel, World Champ Lisa Anderson and original Roxy girl Veronica Kay.

PT at the moviesWith Raimana in a starring role and being a fantastic representative of Tahitian culture and surfing, he was well supported by a big group from Tahiti Tourism, the President of Air Tahiti Nui and a whole crew of Tahitian dancers and drummers.

“The Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D” will be coming to an IMAX theatre near you this month, don’t miss it, take the whole family as outside the incredible action there’s a strong environment message from Kelly and some of the oceanography, how waves work and the birth of the Tahitian islands in 3D graphics is truly amazing.
