Jack’s Surfboards co-owner Jamal Abdelmuti gave me an update on several new Jack’s projects, including a major remodel of its landmark Huntington Beach store.
Some of the changes in Huntington include a doubling of space for the Quiksilver and O’Neill sections.
Here’s his update:
“Jack’s Surfboards is currently going through some changes to improve the shopping experience for its customers in the summer of 2010.
“Remodeling of its flagship store in Huntington Beach has already begun, giving key brands such as Quiksilver, Volcom and O’Neill larger sections to showcase their products. In the process of planning out the floor space, brands like Obey, Matix, DC, LRG, Altamont, Fox and Analog have been relocated to newly built sections giving the brands a fresh space to stretch into.
“A facelift will also make way to a new sunglass section, new boys’ section, skate department, longboard room and surf accessory department.
“The remodel will also include the expansion into the space currently occupied by Jamba Juice connecting Jack’s Surfboards to its girls stores two doors down. This portion of the construction is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.
“After all of the dust settles, Jack’s Surfboards in Huntington Beach will be a massive, 16,000-square-foot surf shop located in what arguably is considered the the epicenter of surf retail.
“Currently under construction is the first Jack’s Surfboards location outside of Orange County. A 6,400-square-foot retail space on Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach will be home to the new surf shop and is scheduled for completion in June, 2010.
“The biggest brand names in surfing along with some of the newest labels for men, women and kids will all be under one roof. This store will house the massive selection of surfboards, wetsuits, surf accessories, clothing, footwear and accessories that Jack’s has become famous for.
“Also in the works is Jack’s Surfboards, San Clemente. Jack’s has already purchased the building located on the corner of Avenida Del Mar and Ola Vista, which is currently being rented out. The current plans has the store mapped out at roughly 6,000 square feet and should be completed in Summer 2011.”
