IRVINE, CA., May 26, 2010 – Hundreds of Orange County business and community leaders are expected to gather on June 11, 2010 for Miocean’s Blue 42 Celebration – Orange County’s best-in-class event to help improve water quality along OC’s 42 miles of precious coastline.

This year’s Blue 42 Celebration, which will take place at the St. Regis Resort – Monarch Beach, will honor local organizations that are helping protect our ocean, and feature entertainment by the popular band, The English Beat. Guests also will vie for highly coveted auction items, including:

• A 2010 MINI Cooper, donated by Irvine MINI/Irvine BMW

• A 5-star vacation getaway to Costa Rica

• A chartered voyage on the America’s Cup-winning yacht, Stars & Stripes

• Customized Surf and Paddleboards, created by surf artisans Ron House and Drew Brophy

All event proceeds will benefit Miocean, the Orange County nonprofit foundation that focuses on curbing the harmful effects of urban runoff pollution through local water quality improvement and educational projects.

Among the highlights at the 2010 Blue 42 Celebration will be the official launch of the Miocean Beach Monitors. This unique network of high-tech weatherproof, wireless flat screens will provide Orange County beachgoers with valuable real-time data, including beach conditions, water quality, surf, tide and climate information, as well as consumer-friendly tips about reducing urban runoff pollution.

“We all enjoy the beauty and resources of Orange County’s shoreline, but our ‘Blue 42’ needs a helping hand,” says Patrick R. Fuscoe, P.E., chairman of Miocean’s Board of Directors. “Fortunately, every person can make a direct, positive impact. That’s why we encourage people to make a personal commitment to helping out – from picking up litter to attending our Blue 42 Celebration – and why we chose to call our foundation ‘my ocean’.”

According to Fuscoe, more than 1.2 million gallons of polluted water are being eliminated daily from local coastal waters, thanks to Miocean-supported projects, including the North Creek-Doheny Beach Diversion and the Salt Creek-Monarch Bay Treatment Plant, plus thousands of local students are learning about protecting local watersheds through Miocean’s sponsorship of the Back Bay Science Center and water testing laboratories, and the Ocean Institute’s 5th Grade Watershed Science Curriculum.

The annual Miocean Blue 42 Celebration will start at 6 pm on June 11, 2010, and is presented by leading sponsors Ketel One Vodka, St. Regis Resort – Monarch Beach, the RC Baker Foundation, and Southern California Edison. Additional sponsorships and reservations are available by visiting www.miocean.org/blue42 or calling 949-242-7702.
