Dick’s Sporting Goods executives told an investor conference that the sporting goods chain, already the largest in the nation, could double its store count to 900 in the U.S.

Dick’s carries some surf and snow brands, and I’ve heard complaints from some surf retailers, especially in smaller towns, about having to compete with the big box retailer.

California, Florida and Texas are three of several states expected to see many more Dick’s stores in the future.

California currently has 15 stores, and that number could grow to 94.

Florida currently has 11, and that could grow to 54.

Texas currently has 18, and could grow to 60.

North Carolina, which already has 22 stores, could see that number grow to 31.

Washington’s store count could grow from one to 18.

Dick’s plans to nearly double its store count in New York from 29 to 50.

Arizona could grow from 6 to 20.

Dick’s is projecting it will record $4.4 billion in revenue for the 2010 fiscal year.

Here is the projected store count for each state in the future that Dick’s unveiled at an investor’s conference and filed with the SEC.
