October 13, 2010– Surf Expo’s Bangers For Bucks skate contest is back and better than ever, pitting nine skate shop teams against each other in a battle for $15,000 in cash and merchandise. Here’s how your shop can be one of them.

Surf Expo’s marquee skate event, Bangers For Bucks, is returning January 6-8 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. There nine skate shop teams will compete on a custom built Team Pain street course in front of thousands of buyers and industry leaders in what has become the most prestigious skate shop contest in the world. Sponsored by Skullcandy, Vans, and Eastern Skate Supply, Bangers For Bucks offers shops the chance to compete for $15,000 in cash and store merchandise.

“It’s fantastic to be see the growth of Bangers For Bucks at Surf Expo,” says Martin Ramos, contest manager and Owner of Kona Skatepark. “The level of skating is through the roof. Based on what I saw at the qualifying events, you can expect one hell of a show.”

Last year’s champ– Progressive Skatepark from Canton, Georgia– gets an automatic bid to defend its title.

Six other slots are chosen through a series of three Top Shop qualifiers held around the country. At the Top Shop qualifier in early May, 25 different shops threw down, but 3rd Lair from Golden Valley, Minnesota and Blacklist from Lawrenceburg, Indiana were a cut above the rest.

Fast forward to October when 15 shops gathered at the palatial Eastern Skate Supply park in Wilmington, North Carolina with Midtown Skatepark (shown below) from Orlando, Florida and Bluetile Skateshop from Columbia, South Carolina landing the two available slots. The final Top Shop qualifier will be held November 5 at Stone Edge Skatepark in Daytona Florida.

So that accounts for seven of the nine shops. Who will be the remaining two? That’s where you come in. The remaining two slots will be selected through Surf Expo’s “Fan Favorite” voting on surfexpo.com.

Starting today you can register your shop by uploading team information and team video to surfexpo.com. Shop registration closes at midnight November 4 and absolutely no shop registrations will be accepted after that time.

Every shop that registers will receive its own profile page on surfexpo.com and will be part of Surf Expo Bangers For Bucks promotional program. On November 8 voting opens and will run until midnight November 22.

Vote as often as you like. The competitive shops last year reached out to their customers in massive “get out the vote” campaigns that tapped into Facebook, Twitter, the shop’s own Web site and mailing lists. More than 350,000 votes were cast and tons of coverage was to be had for all.

The eight shops competing at Bangers For Bucks will receive will receive free accommodations in Orlando during Surf Expo, media exposure, coverage on surfexpo.com, several planned catered events, an opportunity to take home thousands of dollars in cash and prizes for the skaters themselves and their shop, and access to influential leaders of the skate industry. They’ll also claim bragging rights to the Bangers For Bucks title for the year.

So if you think your shop has what it takes, if you think you can hold your own against the best skate shops in the United States, then register your skate team by November 4 and get ready: Bangers For Bucks 2011 is here!
