Crossroads will continue, Thomas says

We check in with Jamie Thomas about the future of Crossroads in light of the news that ASR is shutting down.
Published: May 13, 2013

The skate focused Crossroads Trade Show, which had partnered with ASR recently, will continue on, said Jamie Thomas, founder of Black Box Distribution and of Crossroads.

Jamie told me via email that his team still has plans for a January or February show, and will spend the next few weeks nailing down dates, locations and potential partnerships.

The Crossroads team planned to send out a letter this morning to its exhibitors to let them know Crossroads will go on.

Sacred Craft, which hosted a show in conjunction with ASR in August, announced its 2011 lineup yesterday.

The consumer surfboard show will stage at the Rittenhouse in Santa Cruz, March 19th and 20th and at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar on October 8th and 9th.

The San Diego Union-Tribune quoted Lori Jenks, vice president of operations for Nielsen Expositions, who said the economy and consolidation in the industry were the reason behind ASR’s decision to close.

“Unfortunately due to the difficult economic environment and the consolidation in the action sports industry, Nielsen Expositions have decided to suspend the production of both ASR events in San Diego indefinitely,” Lori Jenks, vice president of operations for Nielsen Expositions told the Union-Tribune.

The newspaper also reported that ASR’s two shows this year drew about 22,000 attendees.

We’ll bring you more updates as we receive them.
