Rip Curl is proud to announce the addition of Jamahl Grey to the Rip Curl team as the Global Boardshort Business Unit Manager. Jamahl has previously worked for Rip Curl before founding Rhythm where he has worked for the past seven years as Merchandise, Design and Brand Manager.
“I am very excited about this opportunity to work with such passionate experts,” expressed Grey. “It’s a great honor to lead the global boardshort category at this iconic brand. I’d like to grow the Rip Curl boardshort into a leading global product and get barreled along the way!”
Grey has lived and breathed surf apparel from an early age, growing up close to Byron Bay where his father was a tailor. In the early ’70’s Jamahl’s father started a surf brand called Tangerine Turtle which resulted in Jamahl learning the garment development process at an early age, spending a lot of his childhood on the cutting room floor and later working in the factory after school.
At the age of 13, Jamahl made his first pair of board shorts from off-cuts from his father’s factory and sold them to the kids at his school. From the profits of his boardshort sales, the young entrepreneur raised enough money for a surf trip to the North Shore of Hawai’i that year.
Rip Curl Executive Vice President, Rick Petri, expressed his enthusiasm in welcoming Grey to the team: “We are really excited to have a person of Jamahl’s caliber, experience and background at the helm of our global boardshort unit to help drive our mission to be the #1 boardshort company.”
