MARCH 14, 2011, (Santa Cruz, Ca.) — Lots of new excitement percolates around the upcoming Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo presented by Santa Cruz.

A late winter low pressure is pushing big surf into Northern California just in time for the weekend surfboard festival. Forecasters are predicting waves up to 15 feet, on Thursday, March 17 with plenty of leftovers for the weekend

Some of the world’s finest surfboards will be on sale with great deals available. Also on display and for sale: handplanes, STPs, fins, travel bags, wetsuits, tee shirts, music, books and other equipment from the world renowned designers and manufacturers that exhibit at Sacred Craft.

Authentic culture that flows from the surfboard is a mainstay of the expo. A handful of unique exhibits take center stage alongside the world’s greatest surfboards. The mainstay of the expo, the Tribute to the Masters Shape-off; honors Doug Haut and is presented by US Blanks. Plenty of live shaping, glassing, art, music, history, food and PRIMO beverage.

Surf lifestyle artist Drew Brophy is taking his new TV show The Paint Shop, LIVE to Sacred Craft. Two painting demonstrations will be given by Brophy and filmed on-site for the show THE PAINT SHOP WITH DREW BROPHY, currently airing on local television in California.

Brophy’s demonstrations are designed to share surfboard painting techniques that can be used by both the novice and the experienced artist.

Sat. March 19th Noon to 1:00 p.m.: Drew will give a Graffiti-style painting demonstration and will show how to customize your own surfboard with a few cans of spray paint and stencils. Demonstration will be held at the SurfAide Shaping Bay.

Sun. March 20th Noon to 1:00 p.m.: Drew demonstrates his medium of choice, Uni-Posca paint pens, on surfboards. He will share tried and true techniques and will discuss preparation, composition, color blending, and sealing.

Brophy will discuss how you can have a viable career painting surfboards, and how retailers can increase sales with surfboard art. Bring your questions! This demonstration will be held in Drew Brophy’s booth #B8.

Author / surf historian Matt Warshaw will be signing copies of his highly regarded “History of Surfing”.

The Future of Surfing Collective will showcase the evolution of eco-friendly surfboards and materials at the Sacred Craft consumer surfboard show, March 19-20, in Santa Cruz, CA. Modern materials and techniques can now produce sustainable surfboards of equivalent performance, durability, weight, and quality in comparison to traditional surfboard construction techniques. From a consumer and a manufacturer’s standpoint, there are no longer any ‘fatal flaws’ for eco-friendly surfboards.

The Future of Surfing Collective will demonstrate every aspect of sustainable surfboards. This includes the latest sustainable materials, the best techniques for using them to build high-performance boards, and education on the lifecycle of a sustainable surfboard from start to finish, and back to the start again. There will be live glassing demonstrations,

educational resources, and plenty of finished eco-boards to inspect and most likely add to your quiver.

Organizations exhibiting in the Future of Surfing Collective (Booths D1-D6) will be:

• The Greener Blue – Environmental Surfing Education and Online Retailer

• Rerip.org – Surfboard Recycling, Community Outreach and Education

• Save the Waves – Coastal Environmental Protection

• Marko Foam – The first 100% Recycled EPS Foam Blank

• Entropy Resins – Non-VOC, Bio-Based Epoxy Resins

• Greenhouse Glassing – The First 100% Green Surfboard Glass Shop

• Imagine Surfboards – Eco-Friendly Surfboard and Stand-Up Paddleboard Brand

• Guayaki – Market Driven Restoration of Rainforests

Making a big splash is the return of our highly regarded Vintage Surfboard & Surf Memorabilia “Antique Roadshow” appraisals. Taking place Saturday ONLY, the Vintage Surfboard & Surf Memorabilia “Antique Roadshow” is modeled after PBS television’s highly successful “Antique Roadshow” series. The Sacred Craft version of “Roadshow” invites the general public to bring collectible surfboards and surf memorabilia to a panel of experts for appraisal. The panel assigns a value to the items, but more importantly they often uncover the provenance, or story, behind the value of the item.

As always live shaping, live laminating (make sure you check out the eco-friendly production work demo of Ryan and Todd @ Eco Boardworks) and vibrant surf culture will be on display at Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo presented by Santa Cruz in downtown Santa Cruz at the Rittenhouse building, on the corner of Pacific and Church. March 19 & 20, 2011. Saturday 10a-6pm; Sunday 10a -4p $10 U12 free.
