Paul Gomez has left Hurley, a company he helped found, to become the new CEO of Podium Distribution.

Walk the walkHurley’s Walk the Walk event at the U.S. Open, one of the many events managed by the marketing team at Hurley.

Podium has DVS shoes, Matix clothing and Diamond Footwear under its umbrella.

Paul was most recently the SVP of Global Events and Brand Entertainment at Hurley.

He has worked with Bob Hurley, who he describes as one of his best friends, for 23 years, including when Bob had the Billabong license for the U.S. Paul started in the industry working in the warehouse.

I asked Bob to comment on Paul’s departure, and he said via email: “Paul has been a great contributor to our company and our brand. His legacy at Hurley is powerful. Paul’s friendship and business acumen are greatly appreciated. His new opportunity is incredible for him, as he spreads his wings into a CEO role. It also provides more opportunity for others to step up and be players. Although bittersweet, both Roger (Wyett) and I are exceedingly happy for Paul.”

Paul said he left Hurley on great terms but was ready to try something new and was excited to join Podium.

He started his new job Monday. His last official day at Hurley was Friday, though the company gave him a farewell party today.

Shop-eat-surf will have more on this story and an update on Podium in coming days.
