Action Sports industry veteran John Bernards has recently been appointed by the Secretary of Commerce and The United States Trade Representative to the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Consumer Goods (ITAC 4).
As a member of ITAC 4, he will be responsible for providing advice to the Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in pursuing trade objectives that reflect the concerns and interests of the private sector.
Bernards currently serves as the Executive Director Emeritus to the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) where he held the title of Executive Director for over eight years. He will represent the skateboarding and action sports industries on ITAC where he will serve through 2014.
During his term with ITAC 4, Bernards will rely heavily on industry leaders to provide concerns and insight from the manufacturing sector.
ITACS are an integral link between industry and the United States Government. They provide a unique public-private forum to ensure industry has a voice in formulating the trade policy of the United States and improving economic opportunities for America’s businesses, workers and consumers.
Bernards, who is the President of Bernards Associates, has over forty years experience in the action sports industry. He has a deep knowledge and expertise in nearly every aspect of the industry including international trade, marketing, advertising, licensing, sales, design, merchandising, manufacturing, trade shows and overall financial and operational functions.
Before joining IASC, Bernards was President of the largest garment trade show in the world, MAGIC. Prior to that he was the President of Newport Blue, Jimmy Z and Chief Operating Officer of Ocean Pacific.
He was the founder and President and Chief Executive Officer of OffShore Sportswear. He started his career in the action sports industry as Vice President, of Hang Ten.
