Body Glove Signs Multi-Year Sponsorship Deal with The Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race

The Catalina Classic presented by Body Glove is on August 28, 2011

Redondo Beach, CA – August 16, 2011 – Body Glove International, the world’s last family owned surf brand, signed a three year presenting sponsorship agreement with the world’s largest endurance paddleboard marathon event, The Catalina Classic.

Body Glove, the ultimate watersports brand, has been involved with the Catalina Classic for the past 20 years and is ecstatic at the opportunity to take a more active role in the race. That Catalina Classic is a great combination of watersports athleticism and community involvement.

“Body Glove is the ultimate watersports brand and these are the ultimate watermen from all over the world. We need to outfit them with our products,” said Scott Daley, VP of Marketing for Body Glove.

The grueling 32-mile paddleboard race on August 28, 2011 begins on the Isthmus of Catalina Island and finishes at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Nearly 100 paddlers, from all over the globe, are making the journey to Southern California for the world’s premiere paddleboard event.

Created in 1955, The Catalina Classic is one of the oldest races on record. That’s why you will see the top finishers from races such as the Molokai to Oahu, Rock 2 Rock and Bay 2 Bay, all make their way to Catalina Island to try for the foremost title as winner of The Catalina Classic.

In addition to Body Glove coming on as the new presenting sponsor, The Catalina Classic is hosting a relay team for the first time to help raise funds for local Southern California, water-based non-profits. The relay team will consist of members of the Marine Corps Wounded Warriors, celebrity paddleboarders and members of The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation.

Body Glove co-founder will be captaining the lead boat, The Disappearance, for the race.

“Once again I am honored to lead this race across the channel. These paddlers have an amazing feat ahead of them and our job is to keep them safe during the long crossing,” said Bob Meistrell.
