Press Release:

S3 signs agreement to translate into Mandarin and distribute the Public Skatepark Development Guide in the PRC.

September 29th, 2011 – Hangzhou, PRC / Basildon, UK/ Carlsbad, USA

S3, the new Action Sports Association representing the interests of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding in China, has announced an agreement with the publishers and author of the Public Skatepark Development Guide to publish a Mandarin language edition and distribute it throughout the PRC in the same spirit that the guide is distributed in the US.

The Mandarin Edition of the Public Skatepark Development Guide will be offered free of charge to bona fide organizations, companies and official authorities.

“With skateboarding’s growing popularity comes the need for safe facilities to skate in. We’re thrilled to see that communities in China now have access to the best skatepark development information available and are looking forward to seeing more great skateparks being built there.” stated the guide’s author, Peter Whitley, who also serves as Programs Director at the Tony Hawk Foundation.

Announcing the agreement, interim Executive Director for S3, Andrew Manly, said “This is an exciting first step for S3. The proper development of free, public skateparks throughout China and the growth and appreciation of skateboarding throughout the country is very important. It is agreed that cooperation between our organizations can help to further these common goals.”

A Mandarin language adaptation of the Public Skatepark Development Guide is seen as a vital tool in furthering the development of skateboarding and skateparks in the country, so the author and publishers have agreed to share its copyrighted content.

While the Mandarin version will include many features of the original English edition, new content will be created by S3, subject to meeting the original publishers’ criteria and approval, in order to address the particular differences in Chinese custom, law and government regulation.

The original Guide is endorsed by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), Skaters For Public Skateparks, and the Tony Hawk Foundation.
