Press Release:

Costa Mesa, CA (October 19, 2011): The Rip Curl Pro Search event legacy will be kicking off in-style, as the Surfrider Foundation and Rip Curl have teamed up to present Ty Segall and Kut U Up in concert at the Mezzanine on November 1.

The concert + Kick-off party will aim to raise some much needed funding and awareness for the Sloat Erosion Campaign, which is a plaguing concern for the local San Francisco surfing community.

Since 2005, the Rip Curl Pro Search has amazed and intrigued surfing fans worldwide, being the only “floating” ASP World Tour event license. This year, the Rip Curl Pro Search has its sights set on San Francisco for a November 1 -12 waiting period, which hasn’t seen a professional surfing competition in over a decade.

This event at Mezzanine will not only welcome the surfers to San Francisco, but it will also serve as an opportunity for residents to learn more about the San Francisco and Sloat Erosion Campaign. Ocean Beach is experiencing long-term erosion and the area at Sloat Avenue is a particular hotspot.

Earlier this year the bluff failed and caused the road to be reduced down to one lane. The San Francisco Chapter is working to minimize the impacts on the short-term response to this erosion and to advocate for a long-term response that incorporates managed retreat strategies to preserve the beach.

Ty Segall headlines the Rip Curl Pro Search Kick Off Party following a month-long U.S. tour in support of his fifth full-length release “Goodbye Bread”, an album described by The Tune as “unadulterated joy.”

The calmer follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2010 release “Melted”, “Goodbye Bread” is a collection of songs featuring Ty’s signature bluesy melodies, and reverbs reminiscent of ’60s guitar tones, but also shows his “restraint and dynamic,” according to AllMusic.com’s review, which “allows the details to show through with greater clarity (especially in the harmonies).”

Also, the freshly reunited Kut U Up will no doubt give the fans, guests, and people what they came for.

Admission to the Official Rip Curl Pro Search Kick Off Party hosted by the Surfrider Foundation is $20, and open to the general public, ages 21+.
