NORTH SHORE SURF FILM FESTIVAL
Supports Local and National Non Profits December 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
Nov 29, 2011 – Haleiwa, Hawaii The second annual North Shore Surf Film Festival strives to bring support and awareness to various national and local Hawaii non profits, during the three day Festival.
Mauli Ola Foundation, North Shore Lifeguard Association, Rell Sunn Bronze Memorial and Guitars In The Classroom Hawaii will all be a part of the Festival and on site to share their vision.
With the year’s top surf films participating which will include Hawaii premiers and short films, local and internationally acclaimed musicians, as well as exciting opportunity drawings of surfboards and great gifts bags on December 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Created and produced by Midnight Productions Hawaii in association with Cinema Paradisio the Festival will provide a Free Keiki Surf Film Festival all hosted by SURFER the bar, located at the only resort on the North Shore, Turtle Bay.
A collaboration between SURFER Magazine and the Turtle Bay Resort, SURFER the bar represents Surfer Magazines commitment to the home of the surfing community and a place for surfer’s, Turtle Bay Resort guests and the local community to come to together to talk story, watch films and listen to music. SURFER the bar is certain to be one of the best live venues on the Island of Oahu.
Films being featured this year are: Blue Sway by Jack McCoy, Year Zero by Globe, Sion Milosky Tribute by Volcom, Minds In The Water by Justin Krumb, Get N Classic by Graham Nash, 36 Hours In The City by Billabong, Imaginarium by Reef, Body Glove, Billabong and Rusty, Blow Up by Victor Pakpour, Surprise Excitement Party by Chris Cote & TransWorld Surf, Beer Can Surfboard by Rich Morrison, The Board Meeting by Maggie Franks, Hello, I’m Andy Irons as part of the upcoming Sunny Garcia documentary by Michael Oblowitz, Bonzer The Mothership 11.0 by Duncan and Malcolm Campbell, Behind The Lens Dan Merkel by Doug Walker, Lost & Found by Doug Walker, Sanded by Tim Ryan, Float by Rip Curl, Walls Of Perception by Oxbow, Plastic Tide by Skye Kelly, Eddie by Claire Gorman, Chasing the Swell by Sachi Cunningham and Leave A Message by Jason Kentworthy and Aaron Leiber.
With a diverse array of films there will be theme’s that will inspire you with Friday, Dec. 2nd feature “Live Like Sion”, a tribute to Kauai born and raised North Shore resident Sion Milosky whose spirit will forever “Live Like Sion”.
Also on Friday in the second program for that day is the premier of Dave Rastovich’s “Mind In The Water” who is a passionate ocean activist. Saturday’s features “Surf Cinema Saturday” and the anticipation of “Bonzer The Mothership 11.0” by Duncan Campbell who is a long time North Shore resident and owner of the famous Café Haleiwa.
Plus the buzz around the film “Lost and Found”, by Doug Walker will be a Hawaii Premier and features many North Shores top surfer from the 70’s and 80’s, such as Randy Rarrick, Jock Sutherland, Gerry Lopez, and Rory Russell, plus the photographers Aaron Chang Dan Merkel and Duncan Campbell.
Not to be missed is the new wave of power for the ladies on Sunday with “Chicks Who Rip”, hosted by former pro Rochelle Ballard. All the films featured are either made by women or featuring women whose athletic ability adds grace, beauty, and style to the world of surfing.
Opening up our musical lineup Friday Night, Dec 2nd with Donavon Frankenreiter who will perform his well known hits such as If It Don’t Matter, Free, Flow and Move By Yourself. On Saturday afternoon Dec. 3rd, kids will have the opportunity to enjoy music with Hawaii’s own Aidan James, a 10 year old ukulele sensation, whose “Hey Soul Sister” rendition by Train on YouTube has over 2 million hits.
Saturday Evening Dec. 3rd, Australia’s Band Of Frequencies will have their debut Hawaii performance. This top Australian band comes to the North Shore with percussionist/activist Pro Soul Surfer Dave Rastovich.
These guys are sure to roc the house on Saturday night. Our closing night Dec. 4th, features Hawaii’s own “John Cruz” with inspirational lyrics and classic Hawaiian musicianship, John brings the true spirit of Aloha to our final evening of the Festival.
With the Festivals commitment to giving back to the community this year for the first time ever in the history of surf festivals is the “Keiki’s Surf Film Festival” as part of the NSSFF. “Keiki”, which means child in Hawaiian brings an endearing aspect to the surf film presentation.
Presenting music with Aidan James an array of surf films set to thrill the young audience! Each young film lover will get a gift bag of goodies and popcorn to enjoy. This afternoon is “FREE” and is being sponsored by the generous support of Midnight Productions Hawaii, SURFER the bar and Cinema Paradisio. There will be two screenings each night with doors opening for the first program at 6 pm, feature at 7 pm, second screening begins at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for each screening program. The music events doors open at 10:30 pm with ticket prices at $25.
There will be a limited number of All Access Evening Tickets that will include both film programs and music presentation for only $55. Space is limited, advance ticket purchases are advised.
