Surfer, The Bar, debuts with Talkstory sessions starting Wednesday

TALKSTORY SURF SERIES BEGINS WEDNESDAY AT SURFER, THE BAR

 

HONOLULU - Surfer, The Bar, a new bar collaboration between the Turtle Bay Resort, on Oahu's North Shore, and Surfer Magazine, is excited to announce its upcoming 5-week TALKSTORY Surf Series, being held during the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing season.

 

The first Talkstory will be this week, Wednesday, November 16, starting at 8pm. Doors open at 6:30pm. Cover charge is $5 with all funds going to a registered non-profit of the speaker's choosing.

Surfer The BarSurfer, The Bar, officially opens to the public on Wednesday and Talkstory will be a regular feature of interactive mid-week programing going forward. FRED HEMMINGS

Hawaii’s first world surfing champion and co-founder of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the world tour. Hemmings was a pioneer big wave charger, respected competitor, and pro surfing mastermind. Go back to the North Shore’s big wave roots and find out how the North Shore became the big wave mecca that it is today.

CLYDE AIKAU

Clyde has been charging big waves longer than most surfers have been alive. He was 60 years of age when he rode in honor of Eddie at Quiksilver’s monumental Day at the Bay in December of 2009. Eddie’s little brother, fellow lifeguard and favorite surfing companion, Clyde knows the man and the waves of Waimea better than anyone on Earth.

MARK HEALEY

Big wave rider, free-diver, spear fisherman, Pipe charger. Healey is the waterman that watermen look up to. Free-spirit, deep-thinker, deep diver. Intense situations have taken Healey to places in the ocean and his mind that few will visit, giving him a truly unique outlook on life.

STEVE SHERMAN

Join renowned photographer Steve Sherman for his “Stairway to Eleven” Kelly Slater Tribute slide show. Sherman has captured Slater’s moods and moments on the ASP World Tour, and behind the scenes, since the early ’90s, right up to his recent 11th world title moment in San Francisco. Sherm’s vibey, emotional images offer rare insight into Slater’s world.

SIMON ANDERSON
