The Street League DC Pro Tour Fueled by Monster Energy continues to present the largest purse and highest stakes in all of competitive skateboarding with 24 of the best professional skateboarders in the world competing for more than $1.6MM in prize money and the title as Street League Champion.
As the only tour with street skating’s biggest stars, Street League has had astounding growth since its launch. The 2011 season was the highest attended and viewed contest series in skateboarding history with nearly 50,000 fans in attendance and over 1.4 billion global impressions.
Last year’s champion, Sean Malto, emerged above the world’s best to walk away with the Championship, and in the process denied teen phenomenon Nyjah Huston a first-ever season sweep. Huston enjoyed an historical year winning the first three events, giving the 2010 League Champion an unprecedented four career Street League victories.
Along with Malto and Huston, the heavy hitting roster of Street League remains stronger than ever with stars like Chris Cole, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, Chaz Ortiz, and Torey Pudwill ready to stake their claim to the 2012 Championship
Street League announced that the final six spots of the 24-skater roster will be selected via an all-new qualifier series: The Selection. Voting on the never before seen footage of the 10 pros has begun at www.theberrics.com with additional coverage at www.streetleague.com. The Selection will consist of two separate qualifiers during the month of April, one domestic and one European.
Five of the six Street League openings will be awarded through the U.S. qualifier through a video contest featuring brand new footage from 10 of the most respected American pros released on The Berrics during the first week of April. These short edits will go through a three-pronged voting process with equal weight given to the fans, Street League judges, and the current Street League pros. The contenders in The Selection represent some of the most respected names in skateboarding:
