Press Release:
HOOD RIVER, Ore. (June 7, 2012) – DAKINE signs surf powerhouse Miguel Pupo to its international team. The Brazilian prodigy rounds out DAKINE’s legendary team of athletes including Bruce Irons, CJ and Damien Hobgood, Brett Simpson, Evan Geiselman, Joel Parkinson and Taj Burrow.
Pupo’s masterful combination of technical prowess and relaxed style has proven deadly in competition. Currently ranked 15 on the ASP World Championship Tour at just 20-years-old, Pupo already holds numerous professional titles including wins at the ASP PRIME Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro and the ASP PRIME O’Neill Cold Water Classic California.
“On behalf of DAKINE, I’m stoked to welcome Miguel to our family,” said Micah Nickens, DAKINE’s Surf Team Manager. “He brings a huge level of skill and power to our team that is unmatched at his age. His future looks unbelievably bright.”
Hailing from the coastal town of Maresias, Brazil, Pupo’s typical workday begins pre-sunrise when he’s already riding waves before most people even get out of bed. When he’s not perfecting his new-school style of surfing, his guitar and skateboard are never far from reach.
“Growing up in Brazil I dreamed of becoming a professional surfer so I’m honored to sign with DAKINE; not only will I have access to the world’s best surf accessories, but I’ll be joining one of the world’s best surf teams as well,” said Pupo.
