Mall retailers report strong August

A wide range of retailers on Thursday reported strong sales in August and a good start to the back-to-school shopping season.

Here is a sampling of same store sale results for some chain retailers. PacSun no longer reports monthly same store sales and Zumiez will release results later today.

Macy’s: +5.1%

Nordstrom: +21% The company said its anniversary sale moved into August this year, which boosted sales. For July and August combined, same store sales increased 8.4%.

Buckle: +4.5%

Target: +4.2%

GAP: +9%
