I’m catching up on some news out of the cosmetics industry yesterday that has an action sports connection.
French beauty conglomerate L’Oreal announced that it intends to buy Urban Decay, a cosmetics company co-founded in 1996 by Wende Zomnir, the wife of former Volcom CFO Doug Collier.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Urban Decay’s tagline is “Beauty with an Edge.” Over the past 12 months, the company’s revenue totaled $140 million, triple the revenue that the company had when private equity firm Castanea Partners invested in it in 2009, according to a press release.
Wende, whose title is listed as Executive Creative Officer on the Urban Decay website, told me via email that she will remain with the company doing what she does now, but will likely have a new title.
Doug retired from Volcom after the company sold to PPR in 2011. He currently sits on the boards of Tilly’s and Skullcandy.
