The industry turned out Saturday for Surfside Sports’annual Snow Carnival in Costa Mesa.
Brands took over the parking lot in front of the store with tents, games and give aways, and lots of executives stopped by, including Richard Woolcott, Jason Steris and Tom Ruiz of Volcom, Kevin Meehan of Analog, Mikey Leblanc of Holden, Dave Downing of Burton, professional snowboarder Jussi Oksanen, Tom Holbrook of Quiksilver, Johnny Gehris of Vestal, Bruce Beach of Electric, Ned Post of Smith, GT of Von Zipper, Marty Mathison of Oakley, Jeff Kearl of Stance, Jeff Booth of Billabong, and a lot of Surfside employees from year’s past.
Surfside co-owner Duke Edukas told us that inside, sales were brisk, surpassing sales during last year’s event, and the raffle raised more money this year for the Blind Children’s Learning Center.
Duke said honorable mention goes to Juliann Manfredi from Quiksilver (who used to work at Surfside) and Dave Downing of Burton, “for selling more product than humanly possible! You can really tell those two used to work retail,” he said.
Brands that participated in the Snow Carnival included Oakley, Quiksilver, Analog, Burton, Roxy Snow, Mervin, Vans, DC, 32, Nike, Union, Flux, Holden, Forum, Red Bull, Skullcandy, Stance, Von Zipper, Electric, Anon, Spy, Billabong, Signal, Bataleon, Arbor, Smith, Betty Rides, 686, Bern, Volcom, Zeal, Mt. High, Big Bear Mountain resorts, Mammoth, Dakine, Celtek, Go Pro, Sabre, NXTZ, and Elm.
Duke also wanted to thank El Ranchito’s Mexican Restaurant, which brought in a feast for Surfside employees.
“It looked like a Mexican wedding reception in our back room!” he said.
