Hobie Surf Shop Laguna Beach Blows the Roof Off Hospitality Night

to Benefit The Boys and Girls Club

Hobie Surf Shops have roots that tie directly to the Laguna Beach community. It’s more than just a place where one of our shops is located. For us, it is where our lineage is the deepest. Laguna is home to the house where our founding Father, Hobie Alter, crafted his very first surfboards in a front yard on PCH. Laguna Beach and it’s residents are in the soul of everything we do.

It was with our ties to the Community in mind that we partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach 5 years ago to institute a “Wish List Kids” program. Wish List Kids are children hand selected by the LB B&G Club to receive gifts during the holidays to make their season a little brighter!

We sponsored 30 children this year, and the gifts are purchased by our loyal Hobie Customers. The program is so popular that our giving angels have been coming in for weeks asking when they can pick a name and start shopping!!

Last year we decided to up our commitment to the Club by turning our town’s Hospitality Night (a Laguna tradition where Forest Ave is shut down for Winterfest type activites, including the arrival of Santa!) into a big fundraiser benefiting all the children who call the B&G Club home!

We host everything on the floor of our shop from a Face Painting booth, and a bake sale with treats made by our staff and clients. Also, a HUGE raffle with donations from almost every brand we carry, the fan favorite Wheel O Prizes, a percentage of sales donation, and a massive in store concert. All these events tied together raised a staggering $2000!!!!

The shop was standing room only during Friday’s Hospitality Night, especially during the live music portions of the night. Featuring local boys “Sharp Turn Ahead”, Ken Garcia and his band, and to end the night, reggae mega star Pato Banton.

Our own beloved owner, Mark Christy, even took the stage to sing along to the Rolling Stones song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. It was an incredible night, and we can’t thank everyone enough for turning out so BIG for the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach!! If you missed out, don’t worry, we will be back even bigger next year!!
