About Katin USA

In 1954, Nancy and Walter Katin, owners of a sailcloth company in Southern California,

made a pair of canvas trunks on request from a surfer. Word got out that the shorts were

durable enough to stand up to surf conditions and an industry was born. In 1976, Nancy

initiated the annual Katin Pro/Am Team Challenge at the Huntington Beach Pier, a team

event, where young surfers can compete alongside pros. Surf legends such Kelly Slater

and Tom Curren launched careers at the Katin Pro/Am. In 1986, Nancy passed away

leaving the company to Sato Hughes, her loyal seamstress. Still family-owned and going

its sixth decade, Katin continues to provide surfers and watermen with durable, stylish

trunks and gear made in the U.S.A.
