At the SIMA Image Awards last week, I ran into several buyers and retail employees from different parts of the country that I usually don’t see at events in Southern California, including Deanne Gale from Whistler and Neil Nacchio of WRV in Virginia Beach.
It turns out they and more than 100 other retail employees were at the awards as guests of Hurley.
Hurley flew in the shop kids and buyers from around the country to spend the day at Hurley for its second annual “People’s Republic of Hurley” gathering. The on-site clinic showcased the key product and design themes for Spring 2013.
Events included mural painting, shop-versus-shop karaoke and Flammo-themed sumo wrestling. New Hurley team rider Julian Wilson, formerly with Nike, was also on-hand to meet and greet the retailers.
The retail employees then headed to The Grove for the SIMA Image Awards, where Hurley won Boardshort of the Year for the fifth straight time.
I wasn’t able to attend the event on campus, but I asked Hurley to send me some information and photos from the day. The photos are above in our slide show.
