DC athlete and television star Rob Dyrdek announced at a Quiksilver meeting last week that he has just signed an expanded deal with MTV owner Viacom to create 140 more episodes over the next two years.
Rob is on his seventh season of Fantasy Factory and his fifth season of Ridiculousness, which is the No. 1 rated show on MTV, Rob said.
He is also getting ready to launch a cooking competition show called “Snack-Off” on the channel.
Rob joked that committing to so much work is “kind of annoying. You want all that money and time on TV, but you don’t want to work that hard.”
Besides wearing DC product on the shows, he has integrated team riders into scripts. He said the shows he is involved in attract about 200 million viewers a year, and account for about 24% of all MTV programming.
Rob is also working on creating more digital “storytelling” content for DC.
The goal is go beyond simply being showcased in a DC advertisement, and to create “great stories and products that are entertaining on our own platform,” he said.
Rob made the comments on stage during a Q&A with Quiksilver CEO Andy Mooney at the company’s sales meeting last week.
