Beach Haven, NJ. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 – The 6th annual Jetty Coquina Jam will be held on Taylor Avenue on Saturday, August 2nd at 10am. All proceeds from this event will benefit David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation (DDBCF), which will then allocate the funds to local breast cancer patients in need. To date, and as a result of the Coquina Jam, Jetty has donated over $24,000 to local families affected by breast cancer, and DDBCF has donated in excess of $250,000 to New Jersey families living with the disease. All money raised through Coquina entry fees, sponsorships & beach activities will be donated to the Foundation.
As an all-female surf event, the Coquina Jam invites wahines of all ages who swim & surf at an intermediate to advanced level to participate. The first fourty-eight surfers to enter will compete in a bracket style tournament. The participating surfers will be split into two age groups, then a female from the new generation of surfers will be randomly paired with an experienced counterpart. The pairs will compete in the name of a commendable cause and for the beautifully carved Coquina Jam trophy, designed by Joel Dramis.
In addition to the action in the water, there will be an interactive beach atmosphere for beachgoers. Farias Surf & Sport‘s youth surf clinic will be led by Jetty Team Riders Jamie Dewitt & Selena Moberly for a donation of $20, Liquid Bliss Yoga will be holding yoga sessions, Naked Juice will have giveaways, and the Red Bull MXT mobile DJ will be providing music. Food donated by the Black Whale, Panzone’s, Speakeasy Pizzeria, Living on the Veg, & El Swell Taqueria will be available for purchase. A raffle for a custom RodeoBird Surfcraft surfboard, a handcrafted Alaia from Pine Knot Surfboards, a Bustin Boards longboard, a Kid’s Fun Basket, and a Women’s Basket including items from Jetty, Eden Eco, & Liquid Bliss Yoga will also be held to raise funds.
In order for this event to take place on August 2nd, Mother Nature must cooperate by providing both appropriate wave and weather conditions. No Wave dates have been set for August 3rd, 8th, and 9th. Stay connected to jettylife.com and the official Facebook account for updates as the contest date draws near.
