Press release:

Salt Lake City, Utah — GoldCoast Skateboards and Quarterly Collective’s video “Own Your Roll / Roll Your Own” features skateboarding in beautiful, abstract locations, and captures the feeling of freedom and unity all skateboarders experience. “Owning Your Roll” means it doesn’t matter what or where you’re skating; it just matters that you’re out in the world rolling, pushing and living.

Quarterly Collective creator Nate Gunn said the narration in the video by Alan Watts says it all.

“We’re all constantly comparing ourselves with others, and it looks like everyone is doing something great but really they’re just living. That’s the message of ‘Own Your Roll / Roll Your Own’:  do what you do, live your life, and don’t worry about what people think.”

Quarterly Collective shot the film with beautiful anamorphic lenses to capture the most of the surreal scenery. As the Design Leader in Skateboarding, GoldCoast constantly strives to showcase skateboarding in unique and visually exciting ways. With “Own Your Roll / Roll Your Own,” GoldCoast has done that yet again.

Gunn and director Arrius Sorbonne wanted an abstract storyline, amazing images and an epic skate session.

“We typically see skateboarding in the same places over and over again, so having insane Utah landscapes as our backyard we wanted to portray skating within several different elements,” Gunn said.

Those landscapes include salt flats, forest trails, and the video finishes with a dramatically lit bowl session.

“I’ve been following along with GoldCoast for years and have always been a true fan of the work they put into the design and graphics on their board,” Gunn said. “What they’re doing is so unique and inspired, and their ideas and creativity really make the project what it is.”
