Vans, the sponsor of the Triple Crown of Surfing, hosted its annual barbecue on the North Shore Monday night.

A large crowd of industry executives, retailers, ASP and Triple Crown management, and athletes turned out for the event.

Jack’s co-owner Ron Abdel is the main chef for the evening, and brings special ingredients, including Middle Eastern spices, pita bread, and hard-to-find vegetables, from the mainland for the party.

Vans executives and Ron go to the docks to buy fresh Ahi, and this year purchased about 110 pounds of fish for poke, sashimi and marinated steaks.

Amazingly, they had enough food to feed the crowd, which was estimated at about 250, and was much larger than prior years. There was a steady line for food for most of the night.

One of the nice things about Vans is that they welcome people from other brands. I even spotted new Billabong CEO Neil Fiske and wife Sonya at the dinner, and Neil was wearing a pair of Vans.

We also have a few photos from the first day of the Billabong Pipeline Masters above in the slideshow.
