Press release:

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Jan. 8, 2015 – This summer, Volcom Stone’s Totally Crustaceous Tour (TCT) Global Championships will find itself at a new home on the famed cobblestone point break of Lower Trestles. On June 22 and 23, the final two days of the 15th annual event will culminate at the world-class wave in conjunction with the Surfing America USA Championships. Notoriously consistent in the summer months, young up-and-coming surfers from around the world will get the opportunity of a lifetime: to surf an empty and coveted line up while chasing $25,000 in cash and prizes.

“At Volcom we believe it is important to have our major surfing events in world-class waves and we are thrilled to host the 2015 TCT Global Championships at Lower Trestles,” said Brad Dougherty, Vice President of Volcom Surf. “This wave has a deep-rooted history of memorable surfing events and we are excited for the youth of the TCT to converge at one of the most rippable waves on earth for a shot at the Volcom 2015 TCT Global Championship title.”

Homegrown out of Volcom’s backyard at Newport Beach’s 54th Street break, the Volcom TCT began as a fun, free and sometimes raucous event for the kids dating back to the mid-90s. While staying true to the character of TCT and continuing to Let the Kids Ride Free, the past two decades have seen this event grow organically into a full-scale international tour, giving young surfers of all ages and abilities an opportunity to get their feet wet in competitive surfing. This season, 250 surfers have qualified for the Volcom TCT Global Championships through regional tour stops, and international qualifiers including Brazil, Australia, Latin America, Japan, New Zealand, Europe, USA, Indonesia, South Africa, and Puerto Rico.

Some of the best surfers in the world today, including current World Champion Gabriel Medina and World Tour surfers Nat Young, Kolohe Andino, Josh Kerr and Dusty Payne have competed on the Volcom TCT throughout their youth, and this season the event will display a new crop of up-and-comers climbing the ranks into their young professional careers.

In addition to providing a major platform to showcase this exciting crew of young talent, moving the event forward into June now aligns it with two other prestigious amateur championships: the Surfing America USA Championships and the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) National Championships. These three back-to-back contests give the possibility for qualified competitors in all three championships, a chance to win a trifecta title.

To top it off, the Volcom TCT Championship event at Trestles gives Volcom the incredible opportunity to partner with California State Parks on sustainability initiatives they stand behind, along with their philosophy to efficiently preserve and protect California’s natural resources.
