Vissla is proud to announce the 16th Annual Cosmic Creek event, coming to Salt Creek in the Summer of 2015. A retro-style experience harkening a different era in surf, which brings us back to the alternative, more experimental time and styles of the 1970’s. This was a period when surfboards ruled the shops, when shapers were gurus and when there was something mysterious and still very soulful about surfing. Perhaps, even cosmic…
Indeed, single-fins, twinnies and all sorts of wild-craft reigned supreme then, and culturally the best surfers wore their trunks short, hair long and rode boards full of brilliant color and tint. Celebrating that vibe of backyard creativity, Cosmic Creek was created to pay homage to those nearly-forgotten stories and creations of that era. It also became an outlet and opportunity to ride eclectic boards and a place to even compete on those fun and amazing shapes. Event Founder Eric Diamond said, “I’m stoked to be partnering with Vissla to host the event this year. Vissla embodies much of the Cosmic ethos, that of craftsmanship and creativity. Of that surf-everything, ride-anything mentality. Thus, the event lives on through today.
For over a decade now, Cosmic Creek brings out Locals and International surf stars supporting the Cosmic spirit. All of these talented souls have made their mark riding the most unusual and forgotten surfboard shapes of the past. And at Cosmic, what you ride in your heat comes down to the luck of the draw. With everything from Ben Aipa Stingers to MR twin fins on offer, it’s anybody’s game. In addition to the event, there will be live entertainment at Bluff Park located at Salt Creek Beach.
I would like to personally thank the OC Parks, the residents of Dana Point, and all of the local businesses that make the Cosmic Creek a truly special event every year. I look forward to seeing each of you at the event this Summer!
