Redondo Beach, California (May 27th, 2015) – One of the oldest and most original surf shops in the world, Dive N’ Surf, is hosting its first Shaper Series this Saturday, May 30th. The Series will continue through June.
Featuring some of the top surfboard craftsmen in the world, each event will allow guests to meet the featured shaper, demo their surfboards in the water and meet the people behind the surf industry’s top brands.
The kickoff event Saturday features the 2011 Shaper Of The Year Robert Wiener of Roberts Surfboards (robertssurf.com). Robert started shaping in his parents garage at the age of 12 and went on to receive accolades from Surfer and Surfing Magazine. His most popular board, the White Diamond, was well received throughout the surf community. Surfers including pros like Dane Reynolds and Jordy Smith have all rode Roberts Surfboards.
From 7am to 10am, guests can demo a Roberts shaped surfboard at El Porto in North Manhattan Beach. Guests will need a valid ID and credit card as well as a legal guardian if under 18 to demo a surfboard; you may download the release form via Dive N’ Surf’s Facebook page.
In addition, from 9am to 2pm, guests will have a chance to chat with Roberts himself as well as meet and mingle with the faces behind companies including, Future Fins, Arbor, Stance Socks, Smith, Savidge, Volcom Women’s, Hippy Tree and many more at Dive N’ Surf.
Those who attend the surfboard demo in the morning will also get a free coupon for Kona Shave Ice, which will be on site at Dive N’ Surf during the event.
“The whole idea is to celebrate summer, the sport of surfing, and the craftsmen behind the sport,” said Dive N’ Surf and Body Glove CEO Robbie Meistrell. “Their love for the sport, for surfboards and everything to do with surf culture is what got my dad and uncle into starting a retail shop and then the Body Glove brand in the first place,” Meistrell added. “After 62 years, we’re excited to keep celebrating our love for the sport and its rich culture.”
Besides celebrating Body Glove’s heritage and the start of summer, attendees will also get to celebrate and have a first look into the newly remodeled Dive N’ Surf store, which recently received a makeover.
Built on the very spot Bob and Bill Meistrell first founded Dive N’ Surf, the newly remodeled 14,000 square foot space has received a lot of recognition for the layout and design. There’s a dive pool in the back, and every piece of gear you would ever want for surfing and diving inside. In keeping with the tradition of its 62 years of history, there are also several iconic surfboards, art pieces and old dive artifacts dispersed around.
After the May 30th event, the Dive N’ Surf Shaper Series will continue throughout the summer. The next Dive N’ Surf Shaper Series features Bill Stewart of Stewart Surfboards on June 13th, and Clint Preisendorfer of Rusty Surfboards on June 20th. The Shaper Series is FREE and open to the public.
